Zac will star in the upcoming film adaptation of the novel by Robert Kaplow of the same name. The story is set in 1937 and centers on high school student Richard Samuels, who happens upon the yet-to-open Mercury Theatre and is noticed by its founder, Orson Welles. Hairspray

Filming fall/winter 2006 with a summer 2007 release, Hairspray is a remake of the 1988 film, about teenager Tracy Turnblad who achieves her dream of becoming a regular on the Corny Collins Dance Show. Now a teen hero, she starts using her fame to speak out for the causes she believes in, most of all integration. Zac will play her "love interest". High School Musical 2

The film takes place during summer vacation and Troy lands a job at the country club, Lava Springs, not knowing that his job is a part of Sharpay's plan to steal him from Gabriella.
